This collection of papers, all in English, on the theme of representations of the self on the early modern English stage, is concerned with the influences that shaped the fictional constructs which inhabited the drama of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The authors of this volume, all established academics, offer a wide spectrum of views, discussing a range of dramatic texts from medieval cycle plays to the work of Tourneur and Jonson. The authors seek to add a further contribution to the growing body of criticism that investigates the multi-facetted and multi-layered nature of early modern subjectivity.
