Conférence | "When East becomes West and West becomes East", Postcolonial Carpentaria Spins Frighteningly

Taking as a starting point Australian poet Judith Wright’s words in her paper “The Upside-Down Hut”, my paper will address the ways in which the Indigenous cosmogony is central to the reconfiguration of a post-colonial present in Carpentaria. The focus on environmental and local issues will show how various spaces are used as subversive places of reality and official history to such an extent that indigeneity sustains intersubjective relations and is conceptualized to re-create “country”.

Mme Salhia Ben Messahel, Professeur des Universités en littératures postcoloniales à l’Université de Toulon, et spécialiste de littérature australienne, donnera une conférence intitulée « “When East becomes West and West becomes East”, Postcolonial Carpentaria Spins Frighteningly », le 19 janvier 2022.

Cette conférence apportera un éclairage critique sur l’ouvrage d’Alexis Wright Carpentaria, au programme de l’agrégation externe d’anglais, session 2022.

Ce second roman de l’auteure aborigène Alexis Wright a connu un grand succès à travers le monde après sa publication en 2006, notamment en raison de ses caractéristiques narratologiques innovantes et de thématiques qui mettent en lumière les problèmes rencontrés par la communauté Waanyi de la région du Golfe de Carpentaria.
