American History in Film & Fiction, 1607-1865
This course works on three levels: history; the representation of history in film; and the reception and interpretation of American history today. The CMs introduce the films and the periods or events in history they represent. The TDs explore how the relevant historical subjects are represented in the films concerned and how these representations are received (according to traditional media such as newspaper reviews and according to modern social media such as blogs and twitter).
