This seminar will be based on a study of Michael Cunnigham's The Hours (1998), a typically postmodernist novel interweaving three different tales, all three tightly linked to Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway. Il will therefore lead to an exploration of the Modernist masterpiece and its deep and lasting influence, and to a reflexion on the postmodernist use of intertextuality. The film adaptation of Michael Cunningham's The Hours by Stephen Daldry will also be alluded to.
