Crédits ECTS 2
Volume horaire total 15
Volume horaire TD 15

This course will review the must important rules and conventions for writers of research papers when it comes to prose composition, formatting, and locating and citing sources. It will also give students weekly practice in identifying and understanding the argument of selected pieces of scholarly prose. (An argument is a claim based on reason and evidence that contains an acknowledgement of and response to other arguments as well as a warrant or principle that connects reasons to claims.) The aim is to propel students from choosing a topic for their M2 mémoire to formulating a significant question (to be answered in the argument) that is of general public interest. Students will be continuously reminded that a research paper without a meaningful argument is like playing tennis without a net!
